From La Mela Rosa to the top of Monte Amandola!

To be honest, I didn't walk all the way but met a friend in Amandola and we drove about 5 kms to Campo Masci where we left the car.

The walk started on a white road with a gentle incline but from there we climbed up a shale escarpment(not for long) and then on to the meadows below Campolungo. For some reason, this part of the walk seemed the longest although there wasn't very much of a gradient. We had a quick stop at Rifiugio Citta di Amandola for a drink from the fountain then started the final part of the climb up Monte Amandola.  Mostly, we were walking up through grassy fields with a small, welcome section through the shade of a wood. By this stage, we'd come up about 800 metres and, looking back over Amandola, Sarnano, Paterno and other, smaller villages, we could see how far we had come but physically it hadn't been taxing.  We pressed on and finally reached the top of Monte Amandola. What a spectacular view!  It was wonderful to sit in the absolute quiet, watch an eagle hovering above and gaze at Monte Priore ahead of us.

As usual, I'd forgotten the camera......
