Le Canestrelle, Amandola

This morning Rob and I went into Amandola to see the procession of Le Canestrelle. The piazza looked lovely - decorated with houses made from wheat, scarecrows, painted carts and tools of long ago as well as some more "modern" tractors & threshers.  The procession was headed by a brass band and followed up by men, women and children dressed in the local costume with the women carrying  woven baskets on their heads.  Finally, after 5.5 years, I discovered what "le canestrelle" meant. They are the woven baskets!
